This screen has been carefully packed to prevent damage. It has been rolled on a stiff cardboard or metal core and packed in a shipping tube or wooden crate depending on its size and weight. The screen should not be unrolled prior to installation.
1. Preparing to Unpack Screen
The shipping container is marked as to indicate top of the screen. All our screens unroll from stage left to right. Large screens should be placed before removing to avoid excessive handling after removing from shipping container.
2. Removing screen from Container
IF DELIVERED IN A WOODEN CASE: The case must be stood on end at the left side of the frame facing the screen. Ensure that all nails and splinters of wood are removed prior to removal. The screen should then be removed from the case in a vertical position. In this way, the wooden case can act as a cradle.
IF DELIVERED IN A SHIPPING TUBE: The screen should be carefully slipped out of the tube on the stage floor, handling it at the end of the roller. If it becomes necessary to handle the screen near the center of roll, use flat of hand only. When raising into position, gently support the screen with flat of hand at center of screen. Again prior to removing the screen from the tube, ensure all nails or staples are removed to prevent damage.
3. Preparing temporary ties
Make up temporary ties. All ties should be the same length and be long enough to reach from the screen grommet to the hook on the frame when the screen is in upright position. One tie for each 3ft of screen width will be need plus one additional tie for one of the corners.
4. Providing Support for Screen as it is unrolled
A dolly or other convenient means of moving the upended roller across the face of the frame is a great help.
5. Unrolling the Screen
Starting at stage left, after the protective wrapping is removed, as the screen is unrolled a tie should be place in the grommets at a distance of every 3 feet. This will serve to locate the the screen in the frame until permanent lacing can be applied.
Roll the cardboard interlining paper around the back of the screen before allowing it to fall to the floor at the rear of the frame.
6. Permanent Lacing
Insert permanent lacing in top and bottom of screen using loop-style lacing. For the sides use Diagonal lacing depending on how the grommets and hooks line up. Ensure the screen is spaced evenly inside the frame.
7. Final Tensioning
Tighten the lacing on the top and bottom first then do the sides. Take care to ensure that the grommets are not torn out by excessive tension. Most tension will be applied to the top and bottom lacings, The sides also must be firm. Do not attempt to tighten the whole screen in one operation. Better results are obtained by working out the slack all around several times.
Special instructions
Mounting the Screen with Spring and Rings or Bungee Balls
Starting at the proper side, insert a spring or bungee into the top corner grommet and a few equally spaced along the side to hold scree in position as it is unrolled. Do not attempt to put a spring or bungee ball in each grommet as you unroll but every third or fourth one until screen is suspended. Go around three or more times placing alternate springs or bungee balls. This will allow for a more uniform tensioning of the screen and will result in fewer adjustments to obtain a flat screen.
For Curved Screens
Minimal tension required to hold screen in place should be used at the sides in order to minimize reverse bowing in the center. With springs or bungee balls this can be done by inserting them in every 2nd or 3rd grommet.
